Belarus: Minsk

The British embassy operated out of a suite of rooms in the Intourist Hotel in central Minsk for the first few years after its establishment because suitable modern property was practically impossible to find. In the mid-1990s, the FCO identified an old building in need of maintenance and renovation at 37 Ulitsa Karl Marx, upon which it took a lease and fitted out the space for embassy offices. It was considerably larger than required and one floor was sublet to the Italian embassy. The Post took up occupation in 1995. [Residence?]
